Training in Your Congregation

Currently Scheduled Trainings

SALLT is providing training and resources for the Holden Village Youth Weekends held in May 2007 under the theme “Service….for Christ’s Sake”. For registration information go to www.tlc.edu/cyfcenter or call 425-961-5544.

SALLT is partnering with the 5 synods of ELCA Region 1 to create a Regional Day of Service in the spring of 2007 with the goal of participation from many of the 600 plus congregations throughout the Northwest.

SALLT is working with Camp Lutherwood, near Bellingham, WA, on three initiatives:

  1. Training for the camp’s Join Hands Day of Service.
  2. Share SALLT methodology during camp staff training to integrate into all camp programs.
  3. Assist in developing resources for Servant Events that take place throughout the year at the camp.

SALLT is also working with ELCA churchwide offices on the development of multi-media resources for service-learning.

Partnerships with Organizations
SALLT can partner with your organization to provide programming at your event.  We will work with you to design an event to teach the service learning model and outcomes.  Service learning training can happen at your regularly-scheduled service projects, retreats, gatherings, or leadership training events.

Interested organizations might include camps/outdoor ministries, youth organizations, campus ministries, or college and university service programs.  Contact us for more information about programming, availability, and costs.

Training in Your Congregation
Is your congregation planning a mission trip or servant event?  Increase the impact of the event by using the service learning method of Preparation, Action, Reflection, and Celebration.  SALLT offers three-hour training sessions to get your team “on board” and ready to plan your service experiences with meaning and intention.  Begin your planning at the training session – you will be well on your way to creating great servant events!

A training session works well as a gathering of your volunteer adult leaders, youth committee, pastor, youth ministry staff and/or teenage youth leaders … whoever is involved in leadership of your youth programs and service project activities!

  • 1-1/2 hours: Brief overview of the service learning model and outcomes to get your group thinking about creating meaningful service events!  Introduces process for designing your servant events using the service learning model.  Works best for weeknight meeting or shorter weekend training.  $75
  • 3 hours: Comprehensive overview of the service learning model, including Bible study and conversation around core outcomes.  Provides reflection time for considering lifelong impact of service on young people.  Also includes an opportunity for your team to begin designing your servant event or mission trip using the service learning model.  Get a good start on your planning!  Works best for a Saturday morning or Sunday evening training.  $125

We encourage congregations to gather other local churches to join in the training.  Consider extending an invitation to your neighbors – and share the cost!
